Our first full day in Edinburgh, and we were able to fit in quite a bit in!
The morning started with a hunt around town for somewhere to eat breakfast (this turned out to be surprisingly difficult for 8am). After an hour or so of walking the dark, and oddly empty streets, we finally found a nice little cafe just down the road from our hotel. It would seem something so close should be easy to find, but once you’ve seen Edinburgh and the way the streets curve around each other, you'll understand!
The rest of the morning was spent on the hop on hop off bus, giving us a tour of Old & New Town Edinburgh. The day was capped off with a visit to Edinburgh Castle, where we had lunch and explored for the last few hours of sunlight. Not a bad first day!
Our second day started nice and early, with a walk from the hotel to Calton Hill to watch the sun rise. Our tour guide from yesterday had told us this was the best place to view Edinburgh, and we were not disappointed!
From there we went to breakfast, and each headed our separate ways for the rest of the day. Mark went to HMY Britannia, Sarah went shopping on the Royal Mile (and bought some pretty sweet personalised T-Shirts. Expect to see them soon!), Lisa caught up on reading at the apartment and I went for a walk around Edinburgh Castle and New Town.
We wrapped up the day with a tour through The Real Mary Kings Close, an old street buried directly beneath our apartment, that was almost completely wiped out by the plague.
